Publication

Since 2011, Prokriti O Jibon Foundation (POJF) has been regularly publishing books, magazines, and informative booklets on various topics, which include issues of natural and biodiversity resources, climate change, and environment. These resourceful publications explore diverse aspects of Bangladesh’s nature, natural resources and human life in relation to our natural environment and aim to raise public awareness about the vastly enriched flora and fauna of Bangladesh. In addition, POJF published Children’s Book ‘Pacher Pachali’, the fortnightly Feature Page ‘Prokriti O Jibon’ published at the Daily Jugantor, Magazine ‘Prokritibarta’ published by POJF since 2014, informative booklets, leaflets have also added a new dimension to raising environmental awareness.

These invaluable publications are also distributed by POJF among various Government and non-government organizations, research organizations, schools, colleges, universities and other organizations free of charge. So that our next generation can become aware of the significance of nature and biodiversity and play an active role in their conservation.

We are surrounded by mesmerizing nature. However, our environment is getting polluted due to our reckless actions and hence we are increasingly experiencing climate change induced disasters. Nonetheless, we have the courage to dream big, and reveal in the glory of realizing that dream. Even though the path to success is always hindered by darkness of uncertainty, it is to remember that, every dawn comes with new possibilities. The book “A Dream for Green Bangladesh” is an attempt to illustrate the reasons and solutions in regards to environmental catastrophes. This initiative has been taken to awake people’s conscience and to raise awareness in order to kindle their compassion towards nature.

With the goal of achieving a “Better Life in Balanced Nature” Prokriti O Jibon Foundation (POJF), established in December 2009, has completed 10 years of its multidimensional works in conservation of nature and the environment in Bangladesh on 2020. Protected areas of bangladesh

Due to the geographic position, Bangladesh is a country rich with natural resources. However, over time, these resources have been damaged due to natural and man-made causes. Therefore, to take various initiatives and ensure public participation for conservation of these resources, protected areas have been declared in different parts of the country. The various issues of these protected areas and their significance in the environment and economy have been highlighted in the book ‘Protected Areas of Bangladesh’.

Bangladesh is a country of unparalleled beauty. The land has many beautiful places, which are full of biodiversity. It is adorned with the world’s longest beach, the unique mangrove forest Sundarbans, the coral island St. Martin, the cloud kingdom Sajek, Nilgiri and Nilachal and much more. Bangladesh’s villages are like a kingdom of green painted by an artist. But in our negligence, we are destroying this natural wealth. Therefore, the book ‘Amar Ruposhi Bangla’ has been written with the aim of inspiring love from our future generations for the country. So that they could know about the unique places of Bangladesh and to take on the pioneering role in nature conservation.

Wetlands of Bangladesh

The rivers, haors, baors and other wetlands of Bangladesh have had a unique impact on the lives of the Bengali for thousands of years. It also has a great impact on our environment and economy. However, excessive extraction, unplanned urbanization and pollution are gradually destroying our water bodies. The biodiversity of the country is also being endangered. Raising awareness and immediate steps are needed to stop this destruction. With this aim, the book ‘Wetlands of Bangladesh’ has been published portraying the causes of wetland damage and its possible solutions.

Butterflies of Bangladesh

Butterflies are one of the most magnificent creations on earth. It has a lot of coloration. For an enjoyable and meaningful visual experience of butterflies, correct identification is the prime requirement, proper guidance is essential for the beginner as well as professional. This pictorial handbook “Butterflies of Bangladesh” is a unique book that depicts almost all the butterfly species found in Bangladesh. These species are arranged family wise on 225 plates and are thus easy to find. Each species includes concise information concerning size, flight, habitat, larval food plants and distribution within Bangladesh and also in Asia. The photographs of butterflies included in the book have been taken in their natural surroundings, and most likely at resting and basking positions, which will facilitate people’s understanding in the field. Photographic Guide to the Wildlife of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a country naturally rich in biodiversity resources. But, with indiscriminate human activities, hunting, trafficking and deforestation, many wildlife species are disappearing from nature. So far, about 15 species have been completely lost from the nature of Bangladesh. There are still some rare wildlife species on the verge of extinction. At present, 138 species of mammals, 690 species of birds, 171 species of reptiles and 64 species of amphibians are found in Bangladesh. Among these, 94 species are endangered not only in Bangladesh but also in the whole world. Although there are different laws and Protected Areas (PAs) for wildlife conservation in Bangladesh, they are more vulnerable due to lack of knowledge about their species. Many nonvenomous snakes are getting killed, from being considered poisonous. Riverine Bangladesh is full of its aquatic resources. Fish is one of those resources. Bangladesh is especially blessed with abundance of fish in different river, and canals in the Noakhali district. Not only for aquatic ecosystem but also the diversity of fish brings great economic benefits for the local population including the fishers, traders and markets. The book ‘Fishes of Noakhali’ focuses on the different types of fish found in the waters of Noakhali district. Because, birds are a precious gift of nature. Over 650 bird species have adapted to the ecosystem of Bangladesh. The presence of a varied bird species of different types, shapes and characteristics in Bangladesh show how rich this country is in natural resources and biodiversity. However, recent research has shown that although there are more bird species in this country, the number of birds has actually decreased a lot. Many species are on the verge of extinction.
