Publication

Since 2011, Prokriti O Jibon Foundation (POJF) has been regularly publishing books, magazines, and informative booklets on various topics, which include issues of natural and biodiversity resources, climate change, and environment. These resourceful publications explore diverse aspects of Bangladesh’s nature, natural resources and human life in relation to our natural environment and aim to raise public awareness about the vastly enriched flora and fauna of Bangladesh. In addition, POJF published Children’s Book ‘Pacher Pachali’, the fortnightly Feature Page ‘Prokriti O Jibon’ published at the Daily Jugantor, Magazine ‘Prokritibarta’ published by POJF since 2014, informative booklets, leaflets have also added a new dimension to raising environmental awareness.

These invaluable publications are also distributed by POJF among various Government and non-government organizations, research organizations, schools, colleges, universities and other organizations free of charge. So that our next generation can become aware of the significance of nature and biodiversity and play an active role in their conservation.

A Dream for Green Bangladesh

We are surrounded by mesmerizing nature. However, our environment is getting polluted due to our reckless actions and hence we are increasingly experiencing climate change induced disasters. Nonetheless, we have the courage to dream big, and reveal in the glory of realizing that dream. Even though the path to success is always hindered by darkness of uncertainty, it is to remember that, every dawn comes with new possibilities. The book “A Dream for Green Bangladesh” is an attempt to illustrate the reasons and solutions in regards to environmental catastrophes. This initiative has been taken to awake people’s conscience and to raise awareness in order to kindle their compassion towards nature.

With the goal of achieving a “Better Life in Balanced Nature” Prokriti O Jibon Foundation (POJF), established in December 2009, has completed 10 years of its multidimensional works in conservation of nature and the environment in Bangladesh on 2020. On this occasion of 10 years of conservational journey, these diverse range of activities along with some significant achievements, partnership and visions for the future, have been captured in the book titled ‘Ek Doshoke Pothchola’ (A Journey of Ten Years). On the special occasion of celebrating the centennial birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the book has been dedicated to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Protected areas of bangladesh

Due to the geographic position, Bangladesh is a country rich with natural resources. However, over time, these resources have been damaged due to natural and man-made causes. Therefore, to take various initiatives and ensure public participation for conservation of these resources, protected areas have been declared in different parts of the country. The various issues of these protected areas and their significance in the environment and economy have been highlighted in the book ‘Protected Areas of Bangladesh’.

Amar Ruposhi Bangla (My Beautiful Bangladesh)

Bangladesh is a country of unparalleled beauty. The land has many beautiful places, which are full of biodiversity. It is adorned with the world’s longest beach, the unique mangrove forest Sundarbans, the coral island St. Martin, the cloud kingdom Sajek, Nilgiri and Nilachal and much more. Bangladesh’s villages are like a kingdom of green painted by an artist. But in our negligence, we are destroying this natural wealth. Therefore, the book ‘Amar Ruposhi Bangla’ has been written with the aim of inspiring love from our future generations for the country. So that they could know about the unique places of Bangladesh and to take on the pioneering role in nature conservation.

Wetlands of Bangladesh

The rivers, haors, baors and other wetlands of Bangladesh have had a unique impact on the lives of the Bengali for thousands of years. It also has a great impact on our environment and economy. However, excessive extraction, unplanned urbanization and pollution are gradually destroying our water bodies. The biodiversity of the country is also being endangered. Raising awareness and immediate steps are needed to stop this destruction. With this aim, the book ‘Wetlands of Bangladesh’ has been published portraying the causes of wetland damage and its possible solutions.

Swapner Prokriti (Dreams of Nature)

Our Bangladesh is a marvel of nature’s grandeur. The green fields, the winding sylvan roads, the chirping of the birds, the rhythm of the rivers captivate all minds. However, this beauty is now fading, the black smoke of pollution has covered the brightness of green. However everyone must cooperate to protect the purity of nature. Our forests are not only trees but a thriving animal kingdom. All these beauty, glory as well as terrible threats with some hopeful dreams for a greener Bangladesh have enriched the book ‘Swapner Prokriti’.

Butterflies of Bangladesh

Butterflies are one of the most magnificent creations on earth. It has a lot of coloration. For an enjoyable and meaningful visual experience of butterflies, correct identification is the prime requirement, proper guidance is essential for the beginner as well as professional. This pictorial handbook “Butterflies of Bangladesh” is a unique book that depicts almost all the butterfly species found in Bangladesh. These species are arranged family wise on 225 plates and are thus easy to find. Each species includes concise information concerning size, flight, habitat, larval food plants and distribution within Bangladesh and also in Asia. The photographs of butterflies included in the book have been taken in their natural surroundings, and most likely at resting and basking positions, which will facilitate people’s understanding in the field. The book ‘Butterflies of Bangladesh’ will be equally beneficial to the researchers and amateurs interested in butterfly and its conservation.

Photographic Guide to the Wildlife of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a country naturally rich in biodiversity resources. But, with indiscriminate human activities, hunting, trafficking and deforestation, many wildlife species are disappearing from nature. So far, about 15 species have been completely lost from the nature of Bangladesh. There are still some rare wildlife species on the verge of extinction. At present, 138 species of mammals, 690 species of birds, 171 species of reptiles and 64 species of amphibians are found in Bangladesh. Among these, 94 species are endangered not only in Bangladesh but also in the whole world. Although there are different laws and Protected Areas (PAs) for wildlife conservation in Bangladesh, they are more vulnerable due to lack of knowledge about their species. Many nonvenomous snakes are getting killed, from being considered poisonous. Therefore, this book with illustrations and descriptions of different species of animals will play a vital role for conservation in this regard. DOWNLOAD PDF

With gradually increasing river pollution, aquatic animals are being pushed towards extinction. Deforestation keeps destroying wildlife habitats. In such context, the book ‘Sobuj Amar Bhalobasha’ has been designed with selected pieces of timely features published by POJF on different issues of nature and environment from 2013 to 2018, published in various national and daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly and special issues newspapers and magazines.

Bangladesher Bon O Banyaprani (Forests and Wildlife of Bangladesh)

The wildlife play a significant role in the ecosystem of Bangladesh. Not only maintaining the balance of nature, they also play an integral role in creating new natural forests by spreading seeds. The book ‘Bangladesher Bon O Banyaprani’ thus seeks to create public awareness on the contribution of the forests and wildlife in maintaining a healthy and balanced environment.

Bangladesher Bonnoprani O Poribesh (Wildlife and Environment of Bangladesh)

The book ‘Bangladesher Bonnoprani O Poribesh’ discusses the role of the diverse wildlife in the ecosystem and environment. The four main groups of wildlife in our country; amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals, their beneficial role in the human lives, have been highlighted in this book for the concern of the readers.

Bangladesher Jiboboichitro O Poribesh (Biodiversity and Environment of Bangladesh)

The book covers the diverse endangered wildlife in Bangladesh. In present context of environment pollution and habitat destruction many species of wildlife are currently endangered. Among them are Elephants, Langur, Otters, Turtles, Lizards, Snakes, etc. The book ‘Bangladesher Jiboboichitro O Poribesh’ highlights the critical condition of these threatened wild lives, as well as their roles in the overall ecology, forests and protected areas of Bangladesh.

Bangladesher Bonnoprani Porichiti O Babosthapona Koushal (Introduction to Wildlife of Bangladesh and Management Strategies)

An excellent publication on wildlife is ‘Bangladesher Bonnoprani Porichiti O Babosthapona Koushal’. The book describes the diverse wildlife species, their life style and overall management techniques. Included here are the mammals, birds, snakes, chameleons, antelopes, tortoises and frogs of Bangladesh with colorful illustration, with description in simple fluent language. The book also provides colored pictures of 1143 animals, their habitat range and identification features. However, children and teenagers would find the beautiful pictures and rhymes about the butterfly especially engaging. Published under the patronage of the Prokriti O Jibon Foundation, the book will provide everyone accurate information about the life cycle, food habit and habitat of these beautiful butterflies.

Fishes of Noakhali

Riverine Bangladesh is full of its aquatic resources. Fish is one of those resources. Bangladesh is especially blessed with abundance of fish in different river, and canals in the Noakhali district. Not only for aquatic ecosystem but also the diversity of fish brings great economic benefits for the local population including the fishers, traders and markets. The book ‘Fishes of Noakhali’ focuses on the different types of fish found in the waters of Noakhali district. Displaying with pictures and detailed information about different species of fish, it provides information on the location of the fish, fishing methods, weight and size, as well as marketing information for the concern of the readers.

Banglar Prokritite Pakhi (Birds in Bangladesh’s Nature)

Diverse species of birds live in the different ecosystems of Bangladesh. The book ‘Banglar Prokritite Pakhi’ presents a brief compilation about the habitat, eating, breeding habits of these diverse Birds and inspires participation from everyone in ensuing the conservation of these invaluable birds. Because, birds are a precious gift of nature. Over 650 bird species have adapted to the ecosystem of Bangladesh. The presence of a varied bird species of different types, shapes and characteristics in Bangladesh show how rich this country is in natural resources and biodiversity. However, recent research has shown that although there are more bird species in this country, the number of birds has actually decreased a lot. Many species are on the verge of extinction. As such the book ‘Banglar Prokritite Pakhi’ will also help us in protecting the endangered and declining birds as well.

CHILDREN’S BOOK 'PACHAR PACHALI' (OWL’S TALE)

With exquisite illustrations, POJF also continues to publish nature related Children’s Book titled, ‘Pachar Pachali’. The book ‘Pacher Pachali’ has been designed for the children, to awaken their love for nature, forests and wildlife and raise awareness for conservation from the very childhood. The children will be able to learn about the diverse forest and various animals rhythmically from this book. Enriched with nature themed pictures and rhymes, this book about nature will have a lasting impact on the child psychology. Electronic. To bring the joy of learning about the wonders of nature to every children the Book ‘Pachar Pachali’ has also been designed into ‘Pachar Pachali Character Show’, enacted at diverse fairs and festivals, including the ‘Prokriti Mela’, to entertain as well as enlighten the architects of our future. The story of ‘Pachar Pachali’ has also been continued into the 3D TV Cartoon Series ‘Pachar Pachali’, aired regularly at satellite TV Channel – Channel i to reach children from all around the world.

The Prokriti O Jibon Foundation annually publishes a Nature Themed Calendar focusing on various issues including nature, biodiversity and our environment, containing various illustrations and information on nature and wildlife. These Nature Themed Calendar are designed with stunning pictures of many aspects of our natural glory as well as their status, role, significance in nature.

POJF Calendar – 2012 has been designed and published on the theme ‘Mammals of Bangladesh’, POJF Calendar – 2013 has been designed and published on the theme ‘Ecosystems of Bangladesh’, POJF Calendar – 2014 has been designed and published on the theme ‘Endangered Birds of Bangladesh’, featuring the diverse Avifauna of Bangladesh and their endangered present status. POJF Calendar – 2015 has been designed and published on the theme ‘Rare Flowers of Bangladesh’, featuring an exquisite array of colorful, enchanting flowers. 2017 has been designed and published on the theme ‘Medicinal Plants of Bangladesh’. POJF Calendar – 2018 has been designed and published on the theme ‘Reptiles of Bangladesh’. The POJF Nature Themed Calendar – 2019 was designed and published on the theme of the ‘Wild Fruits of Bangladesh’, featuring an array of our native Wild Fruits, their necessity in the balance of the ecosystems and declining status in the face of rapid urbanization and deforestation. POJF Calendar – 2020 has been designed and published on the theme of the ‘Invertebrate Animals’, featuring diverse Invertebrate Animals of Bangladesh and their contribution to nature and environment. The latest POJF Calendar – 2021 was designed and published to spread the message of caution regarding COVID prevention awareness and highlight the positive effects of lesser human intrusion on the diverse ecosystems and wildlife of Bangladesh, because of the home quarantine to stop the Coronavirus Pandemic.

POJF publishes Leaflets, Stickers, Banners, Festoons, Pot Song, Flyers and posters with colorful illustrations of Bangladesh’s vast biodiversity and natural resources on various occasions of National and International Days throughout the year. These Leaflets, Stickers, Banners, Festoons, Pot Song, Flyers and posters containing descriptions of the roles, status and benefits of our diverse endangered and rapidly declining wildlife are also distributed to

the grassroots level of the country, to raise awareness among the common people of Bangladesh. These publications with colorful illustration of diverse endangered and threatened wildlife are published on the occasion of National and International Days throughout the year to create public awareness on the significance of conservation.

AWARENESS RAISING CAMPAIGN SOUVENIRS

As part of the regular publication initiative to reach more people with the message of conservation, POJF has published DVD and Pen drive containing the resourceful and informative episodes of the Prokriti O Jibon TV series. This also includes POJF Nature Conservation Award celebrations, scaling access of the

technologically disadvantaged people throughout the nation. These invaluable research materials are also distributed to various research organizations, academic institutions, civil societies, and Govt. & Non-Govt. organizations to raise awareness and build conservation motivation.
