In 2014, the Nature Conservation Award was awarded to water resource and climate change specialist, Professor Dr. Ainun Nishat, for his outstanding contribution for the conservation of biodiversity, environment and natural resources of Bangladesh. During his long career, he worked in the Water Development Board, BUET, IUCN, Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research of BRAC University, and so on. He has worked as a key member to prepare the National Adaptation Program of Action (NAPA-2005), Bangladesh Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan (BCCSAP 2008 and 2009), National Conservation Strategy (NCS), and the National Environmental Management Action Plan (NEMAP) for Bangladesh. During his tenure as the Country Representative of IUCN Bangladesh, he has led various projects for conservation of wetlands, forests and wildlife in Bangladesh. As an expert in water resource management and a Member of Indo-Bangladesh Joint River Commission, he has played a significant role in development of Ganges Water Treaty Negotiations for transboundary water resource management. A key member of the Climate Change Negotiation Team for Bangladesh, he has also represented Bangladesh at the United Nations Climate Change Conferences.
