Professor Dr. Md. Monwar Hossain was awarded ‘Prokriti O Jibon Foundation-Channel i Nature Conservation Award 2020’ for his entomological research and outstanding contribution to the conservation of the environment and natural resources of Bangladesh.Dr. Hossain obtained his Ph.D. from Kanazawa University in 2007. He is currently working as a Professor of the Department of Zoology, Jahangirnagar University. In addition to teaching at Jahangirnagar University, he is also serving as a collaborative professor at Kanazawa University, Japan.Dr. Hossain’s main subject of research, in his varied career, is various insects including butterflies, bees, and grasshoppers. He has performed as the main coordinator for creating Butterfly Red List in Bangladesh. He has identified over 20 new species of butterflies in Bangladesh. He has also worked as a sub-project manager for a project on DNA barcoding of insects. More than 200 species of genetic information have been collected through this project.In addition to the award, Dr. Md. Monwar Hossain was presented with a cheque of BDT one lac from Incepta Pharmaceuticals Limited and a certificate of free medical treatment for life from Bangladesh Specialized Hospital.
